Description:  In what would be final shot of the special, NS train 956 comes around the curve and enters the WR Interlocking. Just passed the interlocking, the train would stop and would not move for 4 hours, while the crew tended to an over heating bearing on the rear axle of the tender. it took 3.5 hours to get from Kirkwood to WR tower in Granite City.

Description:  The eastbound UP Jefferson City Sub local has picked N&W 2156 and its entourage from the Museum of Transportation in Kirkwood on a rainy Saturday morning. The 2156 is heading east to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, where it was built, as part of a loan agreement between MOT and VMT. The NS GP40-2 and NS/VMT support cars will continue the move with the 2156 upon reaching NS rails east of St. Louis.

Description:  N&W 2156 has just left the Museum of Transportation in Kirkwood, its home since retirement, as it is towed east to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, where it was built by the N&W in 1942. The move is taking place as part of a loan agreement between MOT and VMT to return the engine to its home territory. The locomotive is pictured here in the pouring rain as the train waited for a signal at Maplewood on the UP Jefferson City Subdivision. The train included support cars from VMT and NS and a crew to inspect the locomotive during the trip.
