Milwaukee and Northern Bridge over the Fox River |
Description: |
While I cannot attest to the fact that the bridge seen through the trees was built by the Milwaukee and Northern, it is indeed their old R.o.W. across the Fox River in Menasha. The bridge may be a replacement that post dates the M&N. I have not seen a date on it. The track in the foreground is former CNW main that ran from Milwaukee to Green Bay. Though all track here is now Canadian National, there is still a maze of turnouts, diamonds, and tight turns serving the industries in this immediate area. |

Description: |
A local approaches the Racine Street grade crossing in Menasha at mile post 2, from Neenah, on the Manitowoc Subdivision. Canadian National now owns this line that started as an original Wisconsin Central property. The line eventually went to Soo Line and then became a part of the modern Wisconsin Central until the CN bought them up. The Milwaukee Road (Milwaukee and Northern) ran parallel to these tracks in Menasha and granted the original WC/Soo Line trackage rights to Hilbert from the junction near the ends of their yards in Menasha. |

GTW 4928 |
Description: |
A local switch job crossing the Fox River on former Soo rails. This area in Neenah was crowded with paper industry in the not too distant past. There is a Kimberly Clark facility to the left of the camera (photo is along their parking lot) but the rails that served it are torn out. Neenah Paper is about a quarter mile to the rear of the camera and this train may very well spot some of these cars there via the former C&NW line. |
