Since July of 55 Thats As Close As I've Been |
Description: |
An Electromotive GP9 built in July of 1955 waddles at IOmph down the KCS on its way back to Columbus. I bet even when it was built EMD had no idea that it would be around over 5O years later, having done all and more that was ever asked of it. The 7o2 is however not a hit with crews. Have you met a 53 year old that wasn't cranky? The 7o2 is ex Southern Railway (CNO&TP) 6246 that was later rebuilt with dynamic brakes. The ex SOU GP9 came to the C&G in 1983. |

The 80 shoves her cut of 4 to the KCS at C&G Junction (MP. 14.5) before continuing west to Artesia down the KCS. The KCS Tuscaloosa Sub is the line you see to your immediate left. The building you see off in the distance is the old Seminole Clothing Company. I wouldn't doubt that at one time that they weren't a customer of the lines original owner, the M&O or GM&O. This line from MP. 17 onwards to Tuscaloosa and Brookwood, Alabama is leased to and operated by Watco's Alabama. |

....we get a scratch on this thing. My friend Derrick being sarcastic about not wanting to take the 2011 out on his run for the day and wiping away hand prints because they are a bit ticky about it getting it dirty or scratched up. Hmmm, new paint or not its still going to run like the tired 40 year old piece of machinery she is. Karma got him though as the unit he did decide to take out with him died about an hour outside of town. I decided not to remind him :p I think world of ya D. |
