Boothbay 6 pulling upgrade through the shop area |
Description: |
The Stettin nameplate is#a remnant of the city where this little industrial switcher worked while in Europe. Stettin was the German name for the past and present-day city of Szczecin, Poland. This little Henschel was operating there during the WWII German occupation of Poland; hence the German name for the city on the nameplate. Szczecin is a major Baltic seaport located in northwest Poland near the border with Germany. The locomotive was purchased (via a classified ad in TRAINS magazine) and brought to Boothbay Railway Village in the 1960’s. Engineer aboard the train is John Orne, an affable and knowledgeable volunteer at Boothbay Railway Village. |

Out of the covered bridge, and past the old MEC car shed from Gardiner, ME |
Description: |
This is a steep down-grade section hence the lack of visible exhaust - the engineer actually has the Johnson bar reversed to provide downhill braking via air compression; not unlike a Jake Brake on a truck. |
