Description:  All may not be what it seems...this unit is reportedly SP 1229:2 and originally SP 1225. Chrome Crankshaft (CC) is believed to have renumbered SP 1225 to SP 1229 and SP 1229 to SP 1225 in July 1978. So while this photo is flied under SP 1229 it may not be the unit sold to CC as SP 1229.

An Alco Escher
Title:  An Alco Escher
Description:  This is the view on August 6, 1978 from the extremely rickety and ancient steel footbridge over the Southern Pacific's small Bull Ring Yard in downtown Los Angeles, a second-generation diesel lover's dream. In this shot there are a U50, eight U25Bs, a C628, two C630s, two S6s, an RSD12 and a C415. Although the majority of these engines were sent to the torch, two of these units still survive today, RSD12 #2954 is at the Orange Empire Railroad Museum after a stint with Metropolitan Stevedore and S6 #1272 runs in Quebec for the Asbestos & Danville as their #57.
