Description:  Interesting original photo of the Alco-Schenectady 2-8-8-2 "Chesapeake-type" locomotive delivered to the C&O in 1924. CO 2-8-8-2 #1558 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Title:  CO 2-8-8-2 #1558 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Description:  One of the original 25 built by Alco in 1924, this H-7 class "Chesapeake" type locomotive was able to pull 9,500 ton trains over the 113 mile run from Russell, Kentucky to Columbus, Ohio in 5 hours according to www.steamlocomotive.com. This wheel type soon replaced teh 2-10-4 and the 2-6-6-6 Alleghenies in the territory. A real power monster! Unfortunately no location, date or photographer credit was listed for this photo. Looks like West Virginia or Kentucky from the background.
