The equipment from Amtrak train #1, the westbound "Sunset Limited," deadheads from Union Station to the maintenance facility along the Los Angeles River on the morning of July 3, 2011. On the point today is P42DC 66, painted in Amtrak’s "phase II" paint scheme (one of four units painted in "heritage" schemes to commemorate Amtrak's fortieth anniversary in 2011). The train is diverging off the mainlines to enter the coach yard/engine facility. Los Angeles' iconic Mission Tower, which controlled movements into and out of Union Station, is in the background. |
