This old Santa Fe searchlight signal, controlling Cajon Pass' original line near Highway 138, is dusted with snow for its last winter, as a new tri-light signal is being installed just out of this frame. While Winter Storm Nemo was dumping 12"-24" of snow on the northeastern U.S., a cold storm visited southern California but left not much more than a dusting of snow on Cajon Pass. Five minutes after taking this photo, a westbound BNSF train passed, and there was noticeably less snow on the targets even after that short a time. The searchlights will be missed ... |
