L P General Any idea why there are no air hoses on the GP?. It doesn't look like it is on the dead line. I could see not wanting to MU it for some reason, though you think the jumper cable would be removed too, but no brake hose? That to me seems like it would be a FRA violation. The only thing I can think of would be maybe if the locomotive was used to switch dead locomotives at the shops. I know in this same era (spring 1981) in Alliance, NE, they did not move locomotives into the shops there under their own power, but I did not think that was a system wide policy. 4/23/2013 10:48:15 AM
Chuck Zeiler General I have other photos of this locomotive around this time period. I believe there was a downturn in business about this time. Also, the BN had just ordered and received a butt-load of new SD40-2's. Those two elements combined put a lot of high mileage locomotives into storage over at Freight House Nine, across the yard from this location. Many, but not all, would be re-activated as business returned. The MU cable was permanently attached. 4/23/2013 12:49:36 PM
