Scrap yard
This is a look at the Schnitzer Scrap yard located on the old CofG on the east side of Dothan. This is the final resting place for hundreds of freight cars including many of the "whales on rails" 8 axle tank cars that saw the torch here a few years ago. On a recent trip to Hilton GA Charles Burgess, Allan Williams, and myself speculated on why a string of 50ft cushion underframe insulated boxcars were in Hilton. There were probably 30-35 of them. We speculated a nearby grain elevator might be using them to load cotton seed. A look toward the end of this track seen here shows their reason for being in the area....they are the latest victims of the cutting torch. Remnants of previous cars can be seen on the pile of scrap.
