CSX train K587-17 (Ashland KY-Middletown) is northbound, pulling loads of ultra-low carbon steel slabs from the AK Steel Ashland Works at Ashland KY on the CSX Middletown Subdivision at HM Junction milepost BED 4.0. He departed the CSX Toledo Subdivision at Middletown Junction at New River Yard just a mile back or so. The crew has the EC form from the LA Dispatcher to go to North Excello Yard (just outside Middletown); from there he is under the jurisdiction of the North Excello Yardmaster.. The rather Cyborg-looking affair next to the locomotives pilot is the signal that protects the fairly new switch at HM Junction (it replaced a spring switch). The track on the right is the siding track from HM Junction to NAS Overpeck Junction on the Toledo Subdivision. This is a daily train, which is indicative of how busy that the AK Steel Middletown works are these days. |
