A simple gate, with a stop sign, protects the HESR diamond in Vassar. This crossing, once the crossing of the Michigan Central (NYC) and the PM, was protected by a tower (where the dead tree's are in the left side of the photo). It was later converted into an automatic interlocking. The interlocking lasted into the early 2000's before being shut down. The 2 metal posts, seen straight ahead on the former PM "Port Huron Subdivision" were for an overhead crane at the former Grede Foundry. Both the foundry, and the neighboring Means facility, are both closed. |
