Asheville, NC, Feb 8, 2016, 12:20pm: Norfolk Southern empty coal train 745 waits at the NS yard in Asheville before heading west to the Appalachian coal mines. Power is Reading Railroad heritage unit SD70ACe NS 1067 leading GE D9-44CW NS 9634 and EMD SD90MAC NS 7241, a former Union Pacific unit still painted in UP yellow and gray with NS patches. Most of the pictures I take from this location are in the late morning or very early afternoon while I am on my way to my second shift job. The train is facing north. The only time the sun is on this side is early morning, and there is no good access to the other (western) side of this location, and that is why most of my pictures from here are backlit. |
