Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1965. Prominent here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9530 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9530 is an EF-15 constructed in September of 1948. They're pulling an eastbound coal train and are about to pass under the 17th Street Bridge. Visible at the lower left is the branch line leading to WYE Tower in Duncansville ~ and thence either East to Hollidaysburg (so, too, the line to Petersburg, Pennsylvania, or the line South to Cumberland, Maryland), or West to the New Portage Line (via the Muleshoe Curve) to the tunnels and Gallitzin. Notable at the far right is ALTO Tower. (#14 of 44) |
