Nice acton shot of Rock Island #665 in commuter service to Joliet, IL. Built by EMD in January of 1956 as Union Pacific #905, the unit along with 3 other sisters (CRIP #662-664) was purchased from UP in 1969 for commuter service. According to the Rock Island Technical Society, #665 had no steam generator and was solely used as a head end power unit. It's gear ratio was 55/22 with a max speed limit of 98 mph. An unknown Chicago photographer took the photo. The date is approximate. |
