Here is a postal card entitled "Logan House, Altoona, Pa." No Postmark. This structure was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad for the comfort and convenience of the many passengers who passed through Altoona. This was also the site of the Loyal War Governors' Conference, 24-25 September 1862. During this Conference, the governors of 14 Northern States not only reaffirmed their support to pursue the War of Succession, but also voiced support for President Lincoln's "Emancipation Proclamation." Located on 11th Avenue between 12th & 13th Streets, it was demolished after the Second World War to make room for the new Post Office Building. |
