Here is the face of a mighty force that helped tame the rugged Canadian Rockies shortly after retirement. Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1949 as CP #5931, it was part of the 3rd and last order for 2-10-4 Selkirk type steam locomotive (CP's name for the Texas configuration). For some odd reason, this loco was retired, donated to the city of Calgary for display and was purposely renumbered at the time to #5934 as it appears here. Later, it was renumbered correctly to 5931 and placed at the entrance to Heritage Park in Calgary. J.R. Quinn photo |
