With both of its DPU units back online thanks to quick work from the mechanical department and a fuel truck at Bruceton yard, Q126 (Savannah, GA - Memphis, TN) heads onto Memphis Sub rails at Hollow Rock. This is the site of where the old N.C.&St.L. main line to Memphis via Jackson split off. Following the 1957 L & N merger through trains were routed off of that line and onto the Martin branch to McKenzie, where they entered the former L & N Memphis Line for the rest of the run to Memphis. This was done to eliminate a low bridge under the Gulf, Mobile, & Ohio at Jackson. All that remains of the line is a small island of trackage on both sides of Jackson, which CSX accesses via trackage right over the West Tennessee Railroad from Milan. |
