UP 4-8-2 #7863         
A proud crew poses with this good looking 4-8-2 mountain type steam engine built by Alco-Brooks in January of 1923 (serial #63769, MT-1 class). The loco was leased to the LA&SL subsidiary for passenger service between Los Angles and Salt Lake City. It served for nearly 34 years before retirement in March of 1956. Specs - 73" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 29x28" cylinders, engine weight of 340,000 lb, tractive effort of 54,838 lb. Paul W. Prescott photo
