| Union Pacific 4008 rests in the yard at Laramie in late October, 1956. Steam is nearing the end on the UP and the rest of the nations railroads. In just two months, the Union Pacifics fellow western railroad Southern Pacific will end all steam operations on their lines, and in just two and a half more years UP will follow suit. 4008 would be retired at the end of steam in 1959, and scrapped on August 7, 1962.
