| Rhode Island (pre-ALCo) built this 4-6-0 ten wheeler in October of 1890 originally as Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf #1406 (serial #2453) and later in 1896 renumbered to Union Pacific, Denver & Gulf #70. In 1898 after a merger of railroads, it was relabeled Colorado & Southern 4-6-0 #312, class C-3E. On July 29,1938, it was sold to the Hayden Coal Company of Hayden, CO. By 1944, it was sent to the scrapper's torch. 1920 rebuilt specs - 62" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 20x24" cylinders, modest engine wt of 131,200 lb and modest tractive force of 21,380 lb This photo is by rail fan Blackburn. |
