| 24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took just West of the 24th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 10 January 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8668 and #8662. Both are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each; #8668 was built in February of 1958 while #8662 was built in January of 1958. They're coming down the eastern slope of the Allegheny Mountains on their way to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Mountains to Gallitzin and back. |
