PC 6076, SD40, 1973
Hazy. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in July of 1973. Shown here (L to R) are Penn Central engines #6076, #6161, #6142, and another unit whose road number is not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #6076 is an SD40 built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in February of 1966 and rated at 3,000 horsepower. #6161 and #6142 are SD45's built for the Pennsylvania Railroad in January of 1967 and rated at 3,600 horsepower each. Their crew has received permission to proceed and are now moving their merchandise freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Partially visible at the right is WORKS Tower, situated under the 4th Street Footbridge. Note that the cab's front door has been propped open with a red flag. Must be a hot one!
