CB&Q GP7 233 Engineer's side
Title:  CB&Q GP7 233 Engineer's side
Description:  CB&Q GP7 233, Engineer's side at Eola, Illinois on December 28, 1963, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q's GP7's were equipped with dual controls, this shows the Engineer's side. A similar set of controls were on the other side of the cab, so the Engineer would be on the proper side of the locomotive no matter which direction it was moving.

CB&Q GP7 233 Fireman's side
Title:  CB&Q GP7 233 Fireman's side
Description:  CB&Q GP7 233, Fireman's side at Eola, Illinois on December 28, 1963, photograph by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q's GP7's were equipped with dual controls, this shows the Fireman's side. A similar set of controls were on the other side of the cab, so the Engineer would be on the proper side of the locomotive no matter which direction it was moving. Looking through the window, you can see a vertical pipe, which was the exhaust pipe for the Vapor Standby Heater, installed on the running board in front of the cab on the long hood side. The purpose of the heater was to heat and circulate the cooling water through the engine block when it was shut down in cold weather to prevent freezing.

CB&Q U25B 100
Title:  CB&Q U25B 100
Description:  Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad U25B 100 at Clyde, Illinois on February 19, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The U25B was a bold move, since the CB&Q was a loyal EMD customer for a couple of decades. One assumes there is a story from the front offices to go with this photo, but the CB&Q acquired its first non-EMD road units in this order of these six U25B's (#'s 100-105) in 1964. It surely sent a message to EMD. This locomotive was built in September 1964 (c/n 35194), became BN 5424, and was retired in May 1981. Behind the U25B is a F3B and an SD24. On the other track is GP7 233.
