Rainy. Here is an original telephoto that I took at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #6500 and #6306. #6500 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #6306 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower. They're serving as tail-end pushers on a 99-car mixed-cargo freight train that's on its way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll be uncoupled and returned to East Altoona for further assignment. Rainy. Here is an original telephoto that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here are two sets of Pennsylvania Railroad helper/pusher units returning to East Altoona for further assignment. At the right (R to L) are engines #6304 and #6303. Both are AF-27's built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower each. Beyond the 24th Street Bridge are (R to L) engines #6500 and #6306. #6500 is a GF-25A built by General Electric in April of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #6306 is an AF-27 built by the American Locomotive Company in March of 1965 and rated at 2,700 horsepower.
