Description:  12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during August of 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2252, #2286, and another unit whose number is not recorded. #2252 and #2286 are EF-25's built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train past the Altoona Passenger Station on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The time is approximately 2:00 A.M.

Description:  Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2433, #2239, #2362, and #2286. #2433 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2239 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2362 and #2286 are EF-25's built by EMD and rated at 2,500 horsepower each; #2362 was built in 1965, but #2286 was built in 1964. They are pulling a 99-car eastbound merchandise freight train under the 17th Street Bridge, past the Altoona Passenger Station (not shown on the right), to Enola and points East. The caboose is #477691. The westbound train on the right consists of 110 empty hopper cars, headed by engine #9808; the caboose is #477202. Also visible on the left are some of the PRR's 12th Street Shops; part of 10th Avenue is visible on the right. This photo taken from the 12th Street Bridge.

Description:  Station. Here is the first of two original photos that I took near the Pennsylvania Railroad's Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2424, a "U Boat" whose road number is not recorded, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train two tracks over is the mail/express train headed by PRR engine #5900; it is stopped for a crew change. The Passenger Station is visible on the far right, adjacent to the parking lots filled with cars belonging to merry Christmas shoppers.

Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2286, #7243, and three more units whose numbers are not recorded. #2286 was built by GM-EMD in June of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower, while #7243 is an EFS-17M built by GM-EMD is October of 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower.
