Running alone is Union Pacific 4-8-4 Northern #829. Free of the "elephant ear" smoke deflectors, the loco has almost a streamlined appearance. History - Alco-Schenectady, 9/1939 Specs - serial #69170, class FEF-2, massive 77" drivers, impressive 300 psi boiler pressure, 24.5x32" cylinders, engine weight of 465,000 lb, tractive effort of 63,611 lb. The loco was "vacated" in May of 1957. The photo is by B.F. Cutler.. No date or location was given so approximates were used. |
