Former Luxapella Valley GP38 is seen after some major mechanical work at the former Bayline shops in Panama City FL. It is enroute to the paint shop on the CIRR at Cedar Springs where it will get the GWI corporate orange/black treatment. It spent many years on the GSWR. While at the shops in Panama City it's short hood was lowered. If I remember correctly, this unit began life on the original Norfolk Southern as a low hood unit. When Southern bought the NS they put high hoods on these units. Now the hood has been lowered back to it's original look. |

Three Notch RR logo |
Description: |
The GWI corporate scheme is seen on a recently repainted unit that has been stenciled for the Three Notch RR which operates 36 miles of former L&N trackage between Georgiana and Andalusia AL. GWI changed the logo a bit with this unit. Between the "T" and the "N" where the trackage is seen usued to be against an orange background. Now it appears to be a map of the state of Alabama. Credit railfan Charles Burgess with first noticing this change. |

A trio of SD40-2's |
Description: |
An impressive show of power for a short line is seen here in the form of a trio of SD40-2's. The HAL normally operates with a pair of SD40-2's so the third one is probably headed to one of the other GWI lines in the area. The middle unit is stenciled for the Chattahoochee and Columbus which may give a hint on where it might be headed. |

Scrap yard |
Description: |
This is a look at the Schnitzer Scrap yard located on the old CofG on the east side of Dothan. This is the final resting place for hundreds of freight cars including many of the "whales on rails" 8 axle tank cars that saw the torch here a few years ago. On a recent trip to Hilton GA Charles Burgess, Allan Williams, and myself speculated on why a string of 50ft cushion underframe insulated boxcars were in Hilton. There were probably 30-35 of them. We speculated a nearby grain elevator might be using them to load cotton seed. A look toward the end of this track seen here shows their reason for being in the area....they are the latest victims of the cutting torch. Remnants of previous cars can be seen on the pile of scrap. |
