PRR 9806, EF-15A, 1961
12th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during April of 1961. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engine #9806 and another unit whose number is not recorded. #9806 is an EF-15A built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. They are pulling a mixed-cargo freight train past the 1870's-era Passenger Trainshed on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible in the background are portions the 12th Street Bridge and the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.)
