Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Enola, Pennsylvania, on 5 February 1948. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4623, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an I-1S during October of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in December of 1935, and retired in April of 1958 after 35 years of faithful service. Here is a one-page editorial comment entitled "The Decline And Fall Of PRR Steam Power." It was published originally in the October 1949 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 4. No author is specified. Photo Caption: "Among the latest additions to the Pennsylvania's huge roster of diesels are 26 Baldwin freight units like No. 9584, shown at Enola, Pa. This is the first 1500-horsepower 'shark nose' type." Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9584 and #9524. #9584 is a BF-15 built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in December of 1963. #9524 is an EF-15 built by GM-EMD in July of 1948, rated at 1,500 horsepower, and retired in May of 1966.

Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Enola, Pennsylvania, c. 1949. Prominent here is a large number of Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives marshalled for movement to the scrap dock. Among them is engine #3467, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during July of 1913 and retired in October of 1950. Partially visible at the far left is PRR engine #4717, a P-5A (2-C-2) electric built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in October of 1932 and retired in June of 1962. Roy Healey Collection; #7 of 16.
