I had heard the dispatcher talking to a southbound, telling him hed meet a waiting northbound at Stilwell. I got there as the meet was taking place. There was a lot of school and construction traffic-US 59 from the end of the four lane there, up to Baron, about 8 miles, is being widened-so decided the best plan was to let the southbound go, and get the northbound, which turned out to be this empty oil train, which turned out to have a surprise in store. |

This is the only Canadian Locomotive Company 2-8-2 in the album, It was built in September of 1943 as CP #5436 (serial #2041, class P2h). Afer only 20 years of service, the loco was scrapped im November of 1963. Specs - 63" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 22x32" cylinders, engine wt of 339,000 lb and tractive force of 57,465 lb. Rail fan Arthur B. Here is a classy looking Canadian Pacific 2-8-2 steam locomotive with its white sidewalls and side banner built by Alco-Montreal Locomotive Works in August of 1940 as CP #5414 (serial #69284, class P2g ), one of the later 2-8-2 locos to be built for CP. After only 19 years of service, the loco was scrapped in April of 1959. Specs - 63" drivers, impressive 275 psi boiler pressure, 22x32" cylinders, engine wt of 339,000 lb and tractive force of 57,465 lb. No date or location was listed but the photo was taken by rail fan J.R. Reid and is now part of my rr collection. |
