Description:  Here we're looking east on what was once Rock's Choctaw Route. In the foreground is Cotton Belt's main and in the dsitance is the remainig RI trackage purchased by SSW in 1980 and realigned to meet their own main. Both lines here are now Union Pacific. One may wonder why SSW didn't buy the line to Little Rock?

Title:  Former Monroe, AR Depot
Description:  The Monroe, Arkansas Depot was a gift from Charlotte and Freeland Nash in 2003. The building was on the old Arkansas Midland Railroad line, which provided service from Brinkley to Helena. Missouri Pacific later operated the railroad for many, many years. Monroe is about thirteen miles southeast of Brinkley.

"Union" station
Title:  "Union" station
Description:  This station was at the crossing of the Cotton Belt and Rock Island, so effectively a union station. Were looking along the Cotton Belts side of the station. The Cotton Belt used the Rocks Choctaw Route from Memphis to reach this spot, then connected with its own St Louis-Texarkana line. The Rock continued on to Little Rock and Amarillo, eventually reaching a connection with SP proper at Tucumcari.

One of two
Title:  One of two
Description:  Two roads crossed here at Brinkley. One, whose caboose is displayed on the station grounds, was the Cotton Belt, and SP subsidiary. Interestingly, this car is on the Rock Island right of way, the other participant at this point. Cotton Belt had rights on the Rock from Memhis to this point, where it gained its own line to reach Pine Bluff and Texas. The Rock continued west to Little Rock and eventually Amarillo and Tucumcari. A Rock car here would be a nice nod to the heritage.
