PRR 2424, AF-25, #1 of 2, 1965
Title:  PRR 2424, AF-25, #1 of 2, 1965
Description:  Station. Here is the first of two successive original photos that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2424, an unidentified unit, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in February of 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by GM-EMD in May of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by GM-EMD in June of 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They're about to pass under the 12th Street Footbridge with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train three tracks over is the mail & express train powered by PRR engine #5900; it's stopped for a crew change. The Passenger Station is partially visible at the far right, adjacent to the parking lots filled with cars belonging to merry Christmas shoppers.
