CI Caboose #56 - Cambira & Indiana RR |
| Description: |
Cambria & Indiana (C&I) caboose #56 was a 36-foot riveted steel, center-cupola caboose operating on the Pennsylvania coal-hauling short line. Based on a 1924 Reading Company design (Northeastern style), the car served until the railroad's operational changes in the 1980s or 1990s, with photographic evidence placing it in Colver, PA. The C&I was a notable Pennsylvania short line that ceased operations in 1994, known for high-volume coal hauling and, in its later years, using air horns on cabooses for long shoves. |

Cambria & Indiaoa |
| Description: |
There were some old short line and predecessor subsidiary lines that CR inherited when it took on the assets of the big roads. One such was the Cambria & Indiana, a coal mining line in western PA. It was more common to see these cars in that area, though sometimes one would escape. I got lucky, seeing this on northbound to Ludlowville on the Ithaca Branch. These cars were already old, and did not have much service life left. |
