PRR Coaling Tipple, 1965
Title:  PRR Coaling Tipple, 1965
Description:  Coaling Tipple. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. Shown here is the south-facing side of the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Coaling Tipple. At the left is PRR engine #7011, an EFS-17M road switcher built by GM-EMD in October of 1955 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. In the good old days of steam railroading, eight locomotives could receive coal and sand simultaneously: four eastbound and four westbound!

Title:  PRR Coaling Tipple, 1965
Description:  Coaling Tipple. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 September 1965. This is a view from within the Pennsylvania Railroad's East Altoona Coaling Tipple; Altoona is to the right. The slots in the concrete once held chutes in which coal slid into engine tenders. At right is PRR engine #7011, an EFS-17M road switcher built by GM-EMD in October of 1955 and rated at 1,750 horsepower.
