ES44 C4 truck |
| Description: |
The BNSF 6776 is an ES44 C4. The trucks are special in that the front and rear axles have traction motors, but the center axle does not. In order to get maximum tractive effort, the cam mechanism on the center axle raises the wheels off the track when starting to pull a heavy load. |

BNSF 6776 |
| Description: |
The sun had set, but the Z train was in Galesburg, so it was worth waiting it out. Four minutes after the coal train cleared, Z-WSPLAC2-14 flew over the Burlington at every bit of 70 MPH. My first Z train on the Transcon for the trip. I was sure looking forward to following the intermodal superhighway here in a few days just for that reason! Another slow day, but another well spent day. The Burlington treated me very well all the way from small Utica, NE into Galesburg, IL. A distance of roughly 450 miles. It was fun exploring brand new territory for the past 5 days of this trip, but it was time to head back into some more familiarity and hop onto the Santa Fe for a couple days of fast intermodal action! Nineteen more trains today, bringing the total up to 147 for the whole trip. With two slow days out of the way, it was time for a day exploring another big BNSF hotspot; Galesburg! |
